Planning ahead for college

Meet regularly with your child's high school counselor so you understand the courses he needs for graduation, admissions tests, and college. Be sure to ask your high school counselor about taking A-G courses.

A-G courses are a set of high school classes to:

  • Get admitted to a California State University or University of California
  • Prepare for college-level work
  • Gain basic skills for a career

A) History/social studies (2 years)

B) English (4 years)

C) Math (3 years)

D) Laboratory science (2 years)

E) Language other than English (1 year)

F) Visual and performing arts (1 year)

G) Elective class from the above list (1 year)
