Sophomore Year

Ask your high school counselor about taking A-G courses. You need to pass these 15 courses with grade "C" or better to get admitted to a Cal State University or University of California.

C)  Math (3 years)
D)  Laboratory science (2 years)
E)  Language other than English (2 years)
F)  Visual and performing arts (1 year)
G) Elective from the above list (1 year)

Get Involved

Join theater, music, sports, or volunteer clubs - your'll make new friends and it can help your college application stand out.

Start a Calendar

Visit College Board to keep track of important college admissions tests and registration dates. Ask your counselor about the tests you need to take.

Take the PSAT in October

Sign up for the PSAT, which is given in October. Ask your counselor for the date. It's good practice for the SAT Reasoning Test in your junior year (when the score will count). You will receive your PSAT results in December.

Take the SAT Subject Test in June

Register in April for the SAT Subject Test in your strong subjects. You can take Subject Tests in World History, Biology, and Chemistry while the material is still fresh in your mind. Take the SAT Subject Test in June.
